let the farce begin

im not one to share my opinions about something quite as controversial as the "war on terror", but today whilst watching the olympic opening ceremony i realised what a hypocrisy the world had become.

initially, i just thought that the australians had a ridiculous uniform (no wonder the rest of the world thinks were country hicks). then the americans came out. with the typical US of A attitude, they pushed their chins high in the air. bradishing the stars and stripes at every opportunity (uniforms, berets and of course in their hands). i couldnt help but feel intimidated by the american bravado, perhaps this whole charade is another chance for the americans to flex their muscle.

this compared to say... the swiss. led out by the articulate and charasmatic roger federer, flagged by the international sign of amnesty they seemed so much more peaceful.

which beckons the thought, have we forgotten that the olympics are a games of peace? ancient olympics stopped all wars in greece, how come we cant do that anymore? why are we still killing innocent citizens in iraq and afghanistan?

like i said. its hypocrisy

Wow, it's been a long time since you've last posted. Since I don't actually know you (I found your blog through Wayland's), I don't know if you don't have access to the net anymore, or something like that, but if it's not that, then why the long holiday?

I also wonder what has happened to the Olympics. I remember that when I was little, I thought the Olympics were an advertising theme (don't ask why I knew about marketing)- I was still paranoid when I was little, I believed that all companies were owned by one person/organisation!

But I'm more annoyed at how commercialised it has become. It is sad that countries like the USA look haughty and stuck up, but it is nice to see that even the countries with very few people competing look proud that they are there, even if it's unlikely that they'll get any medals.
